Maya Ubud's Gold Sponsorship for Kopernik event 2012

Maya Ubud is generously sponsoring Yayasan Kopernik’s opening ceremony in Bali as part of the hotel’s commitment to supporting local community and environment initiatives.  Maya Ubud has provided the highest ‘gold’ level of sponsorship to the event, which will be held on 23 August 2012 at the Kopernik offices in Sayan, Ubud.

Kopernik is a non-profit organization that distributes environmentally friendly life-changing technologies designed for the developing world - such as solar lights, fuel efficient cookstoves, and water filters – to poor, remote communities. Since the organization's launch in 2010, Kopernik has reached more than 75,000 people with life-changing technology in 11 countries, and 20,000 people in Indonesia alone. All Kopernik projects are funded by individual and corporate donors who crowd-fund projects of their choice directly via Kopernik’s website (http://www.kopernik.info).

Through its Bali-based Indonesia office, Kopernik aims to reach many more last-mile communities across Indonesia and specifically in Bali.  The technology Kopernik distributes is simple, yet life-changing - it means that people can have easy and affordable access to clean water and safe light.  

 

In Bali the organization is already working with elementary schools and education programs to help children learn about science and technology and the environment through the introduction of fun educational toys to complement the school curriculum.

Palebon Agung in Ubud

A Palebon Agung, the cremation ceremony of Ida Dwa Agung Peliatan IX was held on November 2, 2010 in the vicinity of Ubud. The procession started around 1 p.m. with a mass of local community carried out 8.5-meter-high white bull with golden horns, a 6-meter-high dragon bridge (nagabanda), and a 25-meter-high 11-tier cremation tower (bade). The body of the royal Ida Dwa Agung Peliatan IX was placed in this tower and transported to the Pura Dalem from Peliatan Palace.

The Balinese temple ceremony called Piodalan was held on September 8, 2010 at Maya Ubud's temple. Hotel staffs and management presented banten and gebogan as an offering to the Hindu deities. The ceremony has been also filled with the hotel guests who are interested in attending the ceremony. Balinese Mask Dance and Shadow Puppet were performed followed by the procession with Ida Pedanda Gede Jelantik Giri, Balinese high priest.

The Spiritual Journey package is a unique package that introduces and assists participants to better understand the spiritual aspects of Balinese life and customs, whilst creating a rejuvenating and healing experience for participants. The Spiritual Journey commences with a warm welcome from our caring staff, each one allocated to meet the needs of clients to ensure their stay is a memorable and enlightening one.

Each enlightening day commences with morning yoga and meditation sessions in a picturesque setting, followed on different days by exploring nearby temples and visiting a traditional Balinese healer (Balian), or even a spiritual consultation and priestly blessing. Another option is to learn with village ladies the art of making traditional temple offerings as our guide carefully explains the meaning of the offerings, which can later be presented during the village temple visit. On another morning clients will be taken for a walk to a traditional village to be greeted by local village people and experience how they start a typical day. Throughout the Spiritual Journey program, the designated resort guide will share with participants various aspects of the philosophy of the Balinese people, which will enlighten and help them better understand the unique practical, cultural and spiritual essence of Balinese life.

On February 10, 2010, Maya Ubud Resort & spa was held the Piodalan of its temple in the resort area.

The ceremony was conducted by Ida Pedanda commencing at 17 pm, attended by all staffs and management as well as guest in house who were also very interested to see the procession of the ceremony.

Community and Charitable Activities

As part of community-led environmental and charitable activities initiated by UHA (Ubud Hotels Association) - a non-profit and non-government organization whose regular membership are comprised primarily hoteliers and allied members who actively service the hospitality industry, Maya Ubud participated in the humanitarian charity and tree planting.

Visitation & Donation to Yayasan Senyum - the smile foundation of Bali. Yayasan Senyum helps people with craniofacial disabilities by facilitating operations for cleft lips and palates which is financed mainly by Smile Shop that sells particular second-hand goods and old stocks gathered from local business. 

Visitation to the temple of Pura Gunung Rawung at the village of Taro to pray and plant 300 white Cempaka trees, often planted near Hindu temples and being used as an offering to the Gods.

Resort Temple Ceremony

The once every 210 days Piodalan ceremony was held recently on July 15, 2009 at Maya Ubud temple. The ceremony was conducted by Ida Pendanda (Balinese high priest) and attended by all staff of Maya Ubud as well as the guest in house who also interested to see the procession of the ceremony.

The ceremony was accompanied by the sound of gamelan – Balinese traditional instruments and followed by the presentation of offerings.

Once every 6 months of Balinese Calendar (210 days) the resort hold a temple ceremony or Piodalan. The purpose of the ceremony is to purify, protect and bless the area and the people. The latest Piodalan was held in the evening of 17 December 2008. The ceremony conducted by Ida Pendanda (Balinese high priest) commenced with purification ceremony then continued with the piodalan and prayer. All staff members of the resort came along and to celebrate it.

The ladies wore balinese kebaya while the gentlemen wore white shirt with udeng (mind binder), saput and kamben. They sat down inside and infront of temple waiting for the praying moment.

Before hand, all staffs helped by community from Banjar Ambengan did preparation for the ceremony. Each person or group also prepare their own offering to be presented to the God. As you can see on the picture above, the offerings are so beautifully made with creations, everybody wanted to present the best to the God.
